CASTING CLASS WITH CARMEN SIMMONDS

10AM - 2PM, APRIL 20-21, 2024

Learn the basics of lost wax cast glass with Carmen Simmonds’s great Sculpt Box course. She will supply all the tools, and materials needed to create your own unique container out of glass.

These classes are for beginners through to the advanced students; and also cater to the artist who wants to learn a new skill and develop their craft.

Students will learn how to work with the wax, carving into it and applying texture to the outside. Carmen also will show students how to use silicon molds to create their own replicable patterns to apply to the wax as well.

After the wax container is complete, students will learn how to build a plaster-silica mold around their piece and how to melt out the wax to create a cavity the glass is melted into.

At the end of the course, Carmen will take the completed molds back to her workshop in Whanganui to fill with glass using her kiln and then the completed pieces will be sent back to students to open up and enjoy!

Note: Glass needs 1 week to be melted in the kiln safely. Your piece will be shipped to you.

PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be 14 yrs or older.

• Must wear organic fibered clothing (nothing synthetic) that covers below the knee and closed-toed shoes.

• Must book at least a week in advance.
